The Patek Philippe Calatrava is an icon in the dress watch world and this model, the 3440, stands out with its angled lugs, double edged bezel and somewhat pointed case middle as well as the large PP crown associated with the automatic movement. Architecturally, this is one of the most interesting cases from thhe 1960's. This matches the design of the 3448 perpetual calendar as well in its angles and bold design and it makes sense because they were in fact made by the same casemaker Antoine Gerlach. This is attested by the Key Number 4 found on the inner caseback indicating Antoine Gerlach made this case. Antoine Gerlach is most famously known for having made the making the first gold and platinum Calatrava cases for the reference 96, which is the first Patek Calatrava.
