Tudor Submariner Blue 'Snowflake', Ref. 94010, Marine Nationale (French Navy), Military Issued 1978
Serial: 934004
Circa: 1978
Reference: 94010

DIAL: Blue matte dial with square hour markers and triangular market at 12. Silver ‘snowflake’ hands.

CASE: 40mm, strainless steel case with blue rotating diver bezel. Glass in acrylic

MOVEMENT: ETA 2776, 17 jewels, automatic

BRACELET: Nylon NATO

CONDITION REPORT: The case appears worn and bezel has faded to a light blue over time. The MN78 military engraving on the back is original (low and not centred as is correct for the MN78 vs other years), sharp and clearly visible. The dial is original and has even light patina on the indexes. Overall, a stunning example of a rare military issued reference.

NOTES: This particular French Marine Nationale (Navy) issued Tudor Submariner does not appear in the register from Toulon (Pastre), however is 1 number away from one just below it.

Tudor began being manufactured under Rolex in 1946. Early on, the French Navy equipped its divers (plongeurs de bord) with Tudor Submariners. The first Tudors were purchased by the M.N. (Marine Nationale) in the late 60's. This model seemed to meet army specifications for Commando Marines. The Tudor 'Snowflake' Submariner (non-date model; either 7016 or 9401/0) is characteristically unique versus its cousin: the Rolex 5513. With much of the same features and, of course, the same parent company. Both are icons in the vintage watch world and highly sought after by collectors around the world.
