In 1988 the reference 16700 replaced the 16750 with a different case, sapphire crystal and 3175 caliber instead of 3075. The reference 16700 was priced lower compared to the GMT Master II Ref. 16710 introduced around the same time (The 16710 replaced the 16760 in 1989). The 16700 is the last GMT Master. Sometimes this 16700 reference is called "The Last Master".
It came with a tritium dial until 1997 (U serial) and Luminova starting in 1998 (Late U Serial) with Swiss only printed at the bottom of the dial. The model/reference was then entirely discontinued in 1999 in favor of the GMT Master II.
