George Daniels, a famous British watchmaker, developed a new type of escapement in 1974 called the Co-Axial Escapement, which he first unveiled in 1976 and finally patented in 1980. It was met with little interest by the big names in watchmaking due to the quartz crisis at the time. In the 1990's he finally came to an agreement with Nick Hayek on the advice of Jean Claude Biver to introduce this escapement in an Omega wristwatch. In 1999, the Co-Axial Escapement was launched in this limited edition of 999 in yellow and white gold as well as a small series in platinum.
