CONDITION REPORT: Worn, mint condition, the case is unpolished and all hallmarks and numbers are ultra crisp.

NOTES: The present watch comes with its original box and 18K gold AP setting pin tool.

Following the successful launch of their 5548 ultra thin perpetual calendar in 1978, Audemars Piguet followed up with the sapphire open caseback in 1985 and around the same time launched the 25558 reference with the skeleton movements and openwork dial, produced in very small numbers. The total, according to scholarship, is 217 pieces made of this reference: 154 in yellow gold (like this one), 62 in platinum and 1 in white gold.
The case construction was then updated in 1988 with the reference 25668 and produced until 1993, only 205 examples of this reference were produced. 94 in yellow gold, 79 in platinum, 30 in pink gold and 2 in white gold. With less than 250 pieces made of the 25558BA & 25668BA in yellow gold, it is a collector gem and the beauty of seeing the perpetual calendar at work is also a true pleasure for the wearer, especially when setting the watch.

The present example is fitted with a mysterious dial. This is not unique dial, but rather one we have not seen before on this reference. Had to do a deep dive into the AP archives to find it on a precious stone set example. Usually the yellow gold version has a transparent mineral crystal dial with cream colored registers, while this one with all the correct fonts etc for the time period, has silver grey registers. It is correct both in configuration and fonts, but the registers threw us for a loop and then down the rabbit hole of finding another one.
